Titanium carbide has a high melting point BECAUSE OF THE STRONG FORCE OF ATTRACTION BETWEEN THE COMPONENT PARTICLES AND THE TIGHTLY PACKED CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF THE SUBSTANCE. Titanium carbide is used for cutting tools because of its hardness; it is one of the hardest naturally occurring carbide known. It is also used as abrasion resistant surface coating for metals.
