Hey there!

In an element there will be only one element, but in a compound there will be multiple elements.

Examples of elements include hydrogen (H), carbon (C), iron (Fe).

Examples of compounds include water (H₂O), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and sodium chloride (NaCl).

Notice that there is only one symbol for elements, and there are multiple elements in one compound.

Hope this helps!
