You can't see the event until the light reaches you, and you can't hear it
until its sound reaches you.

Although the light and the sound are produced at the same time, the light
travels to you about 874 thousand times as fast as the sound travels to you. 

So the light gets ahead of the sound, and you see the event before you hear it.
