What powers did the new government have under the Constitution that the Confederation lacked?

The new Constitution limited the powers of the government, which was beneficial to the people of the United States. Also, the Articles of Confederation didn't allow the government to tax the citizens. The Constitution, however, gave the government authority to tax. Hope this helps! :)
