Is it fair to Criticize the founding fathers for their general attitude toward Africa slave

It is debatable. Surely, an argument in their defense was that it was the spirit of the time and that people didn't understand that slave owning is wrong, but on the other hand, they as founding fathers should've been ahead of their time and should have known that it was bad. Even Washington himself had slaves, but he set them free in the end.
