Haydn’s string quartet, op. 33, no. 2 was nicknamed the joke because of surprising pauses in the closing of the finale.

And the second quartet of Haydn’s string quartet was nicknamed “The Joke” because the ending was filled with hesitant pauses, as though Haydn and other performers were not sure if they have reached the end.
