solve the quadratic equation x^2-2x-8=0



I have tried many ways for this one but it ends up being a ridiculous answer.

Using cross multiplication

[tex] x^{2} -2x-8 =0[/tex]
(x-4)(x+2)=0
x-4=0
x+2=0

Thus x=4,-2
