if 3/8 of the recipe is going to be made, then u will need 3/8 of the sugar as well

3/8 of 3 1/4 cups would be needed

3/8 * 3 1/4 =
3/8 * 13/4 =
39 / 32 =
1 7/32 cups of sugar <=
