solve each seperatly

x+1<-3
minus 1 both sides
x<-4

x-2<0
x<2

so

x<-4 or x<2

'or' means only one at a time can be true, where they intersect, we can't include those points
so since the solution set x<2 includes x<-4 in it,, the solution set is only -4<x<2
