Hello!

When someone stops smoking, the damage is already done. It's like if you burned a piece of wood. It would still be burnt but still a piece of wood, however, this can heal itself. When you stop smoking, your cilia will regain normal function and your lungs can repair to an extent but will still be semi-damaged.
